Your garden should have the correct plants in order to attract butterflys, like China asters, bee balm, blanket flowers, milkweed and corn flowers. Originally butterfly houses were developed as hybernation boxes. The North American Butterfly Association did research on how effective these boxes were. The determination was that the butterfly has its own method of reproduction that works much better. The newer use is as a decoration in your garden. A section of tree bark on the inside back wall is used to attract butterflys to come in for a nibble. I suggest to you that they make a cute decoration in your garden, but don't count on butterflys using them much. My new design also has a porch for placing orange peals and decomposing fruit, said to attract butterflys also.
